Recognize the lethality of domestic violence calls; Evaluate the situation; Send officers to the scene; Probe caller for helpful information; Offer reassurance to caller that help is on the way; Notify responding officers of pertinent information; Send back-up officers where appropriate or mandated by policy; Enhance future safety by documenting domestic violence calls in a database or index file.
