Seven Hampton Roads domestic violence programs will join with regional leaders and community members at Town Center Fountain Plaza in Virginia Beach, Virginia for a candlelight vigil to honor those who have lost their lives to relationship violence, to celebrate survivors, and to focus on healthy relationships and violence prevention. The public is invited to STAND in honor of equality, respect, and love. Participating organizations are Samaritan House, Virginia Beach; YWCA of South Hampton Roads, Norfolk; H.E.R. Shelter, Portsmouth; Transitions Family Violence Services, Hampton; Garden of Hope Community Development Corporation, Norfolk; and Navy Fleet & Family Services. Event program includes: Mayoral Proclamation of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month; Keynote Speaker (Norfolk Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Linda Bryant); Spoken Word performance (Teens With a Purpose); Survivor’s Strength Testimonial; and Reading of Names of Fatal Victims in Virginia.
